the story

We start our story with the introduction of Old Bones, who tells us of how he will love his living wife Constance from beyond the grave. Constance mourns for his loss, while still longing for a new love. We meet local playboy Friedrich, who doesn’t believe in love and spends his time flirting with everyone in town, much to the dismay of his lover, Florence. When Constance and Friedrich meet, both of them begin to see the possibility of happiness with one another. But Constance’s dead husband, Old Bones, demands her loyalty, and Friedrich’s feelings for Constance anger his jealous lover, Florence. Each soul must choose what price they are willing to pay for love.

Deep Love: A Ghostly Rock Opera contains brief moments of stylized violence, references to suicide, and themes of abuse within relationships. However, the show is intended for all ages, and if it were a movie, it would be rated G or PG.

We’re so happy to have you here for Deep Love’s 15th year!!! This fandom is incredibly special, and it’s truly all of you who bring this show back to life every October. If this is your first time here, welcome to our ghoulish little group! If you’ve been here before, welcome back! The show always feels like a haunted little family reunion, with our own haunted little traditions. (If you’re not familiar with them, you’ll catch on quick.) Chase McKnight (Old Bones/co-director)

Chase McKnight is a musician and singer returning to the role of Old Bones for the fifth year. He loves being able to bring this incredible show to life alongside his co-director Liz Whittaker. Chase is also the lead singer of the band Queenadilla, who released their 3rd full album “You Won’t Survive This” in July. When he’s not being Old Bones or playing with Queenadilla, he’s working as an audio engineer, touring with The Homestyle Dinner rolls, or making music with The By and By with Deep Love writer Garrett Sherwood. His Taco Bell order is a bean and cheese burrito, smothered—no, DRENCHED in Fire sauce.

aspen palmer (Constance)

Aspen is jazzed to the point of giggling and kicking her feet over being a part of this show for the second year. She has been performing and doing theatre all her life but nothing like this project! She’s enjoyed how hard this show has pushed her as a performer and all that she’s learned from this creative team. Having never portrayed a character like this before, she has loved stepping out of her comfort zone for this production. Aspen is studying theatre education at BYU-Idaho and is a lover of Letterboxd, making new friends, Conan O’Brien, and fast food. Speaking of, her Taco Bell order is a BYO Cravings Box with a cheesy Gordita crunch, spicy potato soft taco, chips and cheese, Large Baja Blast Zero ($0.10 up charge) AND A TON OF DIABLO SAUCE.

Michael Dunn (Friedrich)

Mikey is thrilled to return to the role of Friedrich for his fourth year. Mikey has been involved in the Utah Music scene since 2013, performing with the likes of David Paich of Toto, Mavis Staples, and David Osmond. His Taco Bell order is a Build your own cravings box with a Crunchwrap Supreme, a cheesy bean-and-rice burrito, chips and cheese, and a large Baja Blast zero.

sheldon bladh (florence)

Sheldon’s very first project as a college freshman was working on the makeup crew of Deep Love. She remembers walking across the stage of The Capitol theater, watching the band set up, and thinking “One day, I want to be in a show like this!” Over a decade later, that dream came true when she played the role of Florence in 2023. Sheldon is thrilled to be returning to the Deep Love stage for her 4th year! She has previously performed across the U.S, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Performance from Brigham Young University Idaho, and has recently enjoyed studying voice with none other than Amy Lynn Whitcomb, who originated this role. Sheldon is happiest when she is performing, but also enjoys event planning, going ALL OUT for Halloween, and renovating her 1962 home with her husband Josh and her daughter, Lorelei.⁠ You can follow her renovation journey on Instagram @home.by.candlelight, and her music journey on Instagram @Sheldon.the.singer. Her Taco Bell order changes with her mood, but always includes a Beefy 5-Layer with no less than 10 packets of mild sauce. (Not ‘cause she can’t take the heat, but because she likes the flavor.)

Andrew Pincock (Bass & MUSIC DIRECTOR)

Andrew Pincock has been rocking the bass for this show since 2013. Andrew is a full time musician and also plays bass for Jake and the Heist and Will Baxter Band. Outside of music, Andrew enjoys video games, photography, and movies. His Taco Bell order changes with his whims, but always includes meat, cheese, and a tortilla.

FORD ERICKSON (GUITAR)

Ford has been with Deep Love for 15 years. He did his Sociology college internship with Deep Love in 2012, even though no one is sure how that got approved. He says he enjoys being a part of Deep Love because it has made him rich beyond his wildest imaginations. Original songs from his band Tarantula Cat are available on all streaming platforms. You can actually find him all over the internet, including YouTube, Instagram, and on his podcast Why We Hike. His favorite item in the history of the Taco Bell menu is the Spicy Chicken Crunchwrap Supreme, which is no longer with us (RIP).

caleb wall (keys)

Caleb has played Keys for Deep Love since February of 2023, and has been a huge fan since 2019. (In 2020 Deep Live was his most listened to album on Spotify.) His other projects include his bands The Harpies and The By and By, as well as playing for the comedy podcast Musical Mondays. jordan jacobsen (guitar)

Jordan is a songwriter and educator and is stoked to rejoin Deep Love for his 2nd year. When he’s not writing music and playing shows with friends, he teaches guitar at Culture Verse Studios in Lehi. Check out @cultureversestudios on Instagram to see what he’s all about! His Taco bell order is a Crunchwrap Supreme, a grilled cheese burrito, and a large zero sugar Baja Blast.

cody Robinson (acoustic guitar)

Cody went stag to a Deep Love show one Valentine’s Day and fell in love with the music. He’s thrilled to be part of the onstage magic, providing acoustic guitar in his second year with the ensemble. A multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, Cody placed 5th in a national songwriting competition for his track “Lose Control,” which he wrote in high school. His musical adventures have taken him from the streets of Kathmandu to New York’s East Village with his band Secondhand Stranger. Cody currently resides in Utah and holds a degree in Music Business & Technology from the University of Utah. You can follow him on Instagram @TripVanWrinkle. Oh, and he loves a good Crunchwrap Supreme.

candido abeyta (saxophone)

Candido Jessee Abeyta, a West Jordan native, is a professional saxophonist and music educator. With over 13 years of experience performing across the Salt Lake Valley and abroad, he has shared the stage with artists like IDKHow and Neon Trees, where he's a first-call saxophonist. A versatile musician fluent in jazz, soul, R&B, and pop, Candido has played on numerous studio recordings, including Neon Trees’ 2024 album Sink Your Teeth. He also serves as a jazz clinician throughout Utah and holds degrees in Music Education and Jazz Performance from the University of Utah. You can follow him on instagram @Candido_Abeyta. His Taco Bell order is a Crunchwrap Supreme, a Diet Pepsi, and cinnamon twists.

liz whittaker (co-director/producer)

Liz is a director, actor, sound designer, writer, intimacy director/coordinator, and avid rock music fan. This is her 5th year directing Deep Love, the 3rd time alongside Chase as co-director, which is so much fun. You can learn more about her work at www.lizwhittaker.com, and follow her professional intimacy director Instagram at Intimacy With Liz. When she’s not doing theatre or film things, she’s writing romance novels under the pen name Elle Whittaker (Instagram, TikTok). Her go-to Taco Bell order is a cheesy gordita crunch, minus spicy ranch, add nacho cheese. And a caramel apple empanada during the magical times when it returns.

Lily has a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Audio from UVU, and works in broadcast audio for the Utah Jazz, Utah Mammoth, and other sports teams/events throughout Utah. She’s been a huge fan of the show since seeing it in 2022, and she’s excited to return to helping with sound, this time as Mrs. Old Bones. She almost never goes to Taco Bell, but she’d probably get a Crunchwrap Supreme.

jessica wall (set design, makeup apprentice, guitar butler)

Jessica has been working in theatre, onstage and backstage, for over twenty years, and she is delighted to be returning to Deep Love and, of course, musical butlering. Her go to Taco Bell order is nachos with no tomatoes and no sour cream.

brenna wall (lighting design)

Brenna is thrilled to return for her fourth year with the Deep Love crew. She works professionally as a lighting designer and is always looking for weird new ways to use light as a form of storytelling. She also enjoys graphic design (check out her art at the merch table!) Her Taco Bell order is a beef chalupa supreme and a cheesy bean and rice burrito (two if she’s especially ravenous).

ariel lafontaine (hair and makeup design)

Ariel is an artist who works primarily in the mediums of makeup design & wardrobe styling. She  fosters a variety of interests in the creative and outdoor cultures and takes a special interest in productions that utilize clothing, music, & environment as core elements of their visual storytelling. Ariel has been with Deep Love since 2011 and stands in the corner admiring your funeral attire after each show.
